On December 8, a group of volunteers armed with Christmas decorations, cheerful spirits and creativity galore went to work at Rocky Mountain Village.
The volunteers donated their time and supplies to decorate doors at the seniors living community, something that seems to have brought smiles to the faces of more than a few people.
According to Shelley Moulton, since the doors were decorated she’s noticed smiles on the faces of the residents, visitors and staff at Rocky Mountain Village whenever they glimpse the festively adorned doors.
“We’ve started decorating doors for a couple of years now but this year, that group just went above and beyond and decorated all the doors,” Moulton explained. “We are so appreciative that they came in.”
The doors were made pretty using a variety of styles and decorations. One door in the main hallway was fashioned to look like an ‘ugly’ Christmas sweater while another door with a window was styled so that whoever’s face was in the window looked like an elf. The door reads ‘Take An Elfie’.
While each and every one of the doors is unique and festive in its own way, on December 19, Moulton said the community will be doing a door judging contest.
“I’m going to have a few of the seniors be the judges and we’re going to go around to the different doors and we’re going to give out some prizes for the best doors,” she said. “It’ll be after our Christmas party so we’ll go around and look at the doors and hand out some prizes just because it’s nice to recognize some of the ones that have done such hard work on them.”
The volunteers have certainly helped to spread their share of Christmas cheer this holiday season and Moulton added that “it’s very appreciated for them to spend the time to come in and do this for the seniors. It’s really just lovely.”
