Police have received fewer calls for service in 2011 than in the previous year.
On Monday, Sgt. Mona Kauffeld presented the year-end policing results to municipal council.
She said over 2011, there were 2,115 calls to the dispatch centre, a drop of 593 from the previous year.
The number of charges for the year is also significantly lower than a year earlier, with 136 charges last year, down 28 from 2010.
Crimes against people showed an increase of 25 per cent from the previous year’s figures.
Much of this came in the last quarter of the year, when crimes against people rose by 87 per cent.
There were 39 assaults and three serious assaults in 2011, up from 35 assaults and one serious assault in 2010.
Two robberies, including one in the last quarter of 2011, were reported. There had been none in 2010.
Harassment complaints increased from 14 in 2010 to 25 in 2011.
Overall, property crimes showed a seven per cent decrease in 2011.
The number of auto thefts was down by 48 per cent, with 15 vehicles stolen in 2011, down from 29 a year earlier.
There were 47 thefts from vehicles, down from 69 a year earlier.
The number of break and enters also dropped.
There were five business break and enters, down from 16 in 2010.
Residential break and enters dropped from 12 in 2010 to 10 in 2011.
Other break and enters rose slightly with 15 reported in 2010 and 16 reported this year.
While the number of thefts over $5,000 remained the same at four each year, the number of thefts under $5,000 dropped from 70 in 2010 to 48 in 2011, a 31 per cent decrease.
Fraud and mischief complaints both increased in 2011.
There were 18 frauds reported, up from 16 in 2010. The number of mischief reports rose from 80 in 2010 to 123 in 2011.
On the roads, collisions with damage over $1,000 dropped from 64 in 2010 to 53 in 2011.
Collisions with damage under $1,000 rose from 20 in 2010 to 24 in 2011.
