Delegation asks to make Mission more RV friendly

Mission resident Larry Harron said bringing more RVers to the district would help the economy

A Mission man is trying to attract recreational vehicles to the area for tourism and he wants the district to help spread the word.

Larry Harron spoke to council April 23 and said providing parking would entice more RVers to enjoy Mission’s offerings.

If each visitor spent an estimated $235, it would add $423,000 to the economy, Harron said.

“I think with the West Coast Express they can go into town, and we can keep them here for two or three days and it’s all beneficial to us,” he said.

Mission already has a free sanidump for RVs on Mission Way, just off London Avenue near the Junction, and Harron said parking lots at Canadian Tire, Wal-Mart, or Chances Casino could host RVs overnight.

Harron asked for promotional help through the municipality’s website and other media, as well as possibly adding signage to advertise parking locations.

Coun. Larry Nundal led a motion to provide “moral support” and signage to assisting Harron. Anyone interested in volunteering can contact him at lnharron@hotmail.com.
