A woman is in serious but stable condition after being struck by a car, which then fled the scene.

Police said Monday they have recovered the vehicle, and are now searching it for evidence.

The investigation stems from an incident on Saturday (June 16) at about 1:30 a.m., when a young woman was walking with a group of friends on 80 Avenue at 116 Street in North Delta and was hit by a car.

She was taken to Royal Columbian Hospital where she remains in serious but stable condition.

Witnesses described the vehicle as a dark metallic blue 2009 Mazda 3, which was seen fleeing northbound on 116 Street.

Delta Police searched the area for the vehicle eventually spotting it in Surrey near 100 Avenue and 130 Street.

The Delta Police pursued the vehicle for a short distance, and at one point made contact with the vehicle in an attempt to stop the driver, who was last seen heading eastbound on 100 Avenue.

The vehicle has significant damage to its windshield, left front and rear fenders and right front passenger area.

Delta police said Monday morning they now have seized the vehicle and are combing it for forensic evidence.

They could not say whether the vehicle was stolen, nor were investigators found it.

As to whether the registered owner is believed responsible for the collision, Delta police said they would not be talking about any suspects they might have.

The investigation is continuing and at this time investigators are asking anyone who may have information regarding this incident to contact the Delta Police Department at 604-946-4411 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
