Distracted Driver crashes into ditch along Byng Road

Port Hardy public works department confirms the incident was caused by distracted driving.

A North Island resident had crashed into a ditch along Byng Road in Port Hardy sometime during the afternoon, Nov. 19.

The District of Port Hardy’s public works department had called to comment that the incident had occurred because of distracted driving.

The Port Hardy RCMP have since responded to the incident. According to one resident, “all traffic has stopped to get the truck out of the ditch.” The vehicle had swerved into the right of the road, which the driver then crashed into the ditch.

Byng Road, the road leading to the Port Hardy airport, is currently closed until the truck is towed out of the ditch.

Another local commented that “Byng (R)oad straight stretch is a sheet of ice,” early this morning, Nov. 19.
