The District of Sparwood held their annual Christmas Party and Awards Banquet on December 6.

During the event, the District recognized the contributions of long-term employees. Several employees were presented with service pins for five to fifteen years, while two individuals were recognized for their “significant history with the municipality,” according to the District of Sparwood.

Bonnie Willett, who has served a total of 35 years with the municipality, 30 of which were spent at the Sparwood Leisure Centre, was one of the award recipients. Willet was “known to be a friendly face” at the pool.

The other award recipient was Karl Ehrler, who is now the Sparwood Fire Department Assistant Chief. He was celebrated for his 30 years of dedication to the team.

“It seemed like it was yesterday when I first joined the Fire Department,” said Ehrler. “Time flies. I have learned a lot and seen a lot and am happy to continue to assist the community within this capacity.”

Sparwood Mayor David Wilks was in attendance and commended both Willett and Ehrler for their hard work and dedication to the community.

“It is really a great thing to see employees work within the District for such a considerable amount of time,” Wilks said. “They become people who are familiar and trusted within the community and carry with them a great deal of knowledge and history. Both Bonnie Willett and Karl Ehrler have proven to provide a high level of expertise in all that they do and we are thankful to have them as part of the team.”
