District of Tofino searching for new manager of financial services

West Coast's Municipal hiring spree continues.

Tofino is continuing the West Coast’s recent municipal hiring spree as the district office plans to add a new manager of financial services to its team.

The new position will report directly to Tofino’s director of financial services Nyla Attiana, who explained no current employees will be replaced by the new hire.

“With increasing service levels, and operating and capital budgets over the next five years the Financial Services Department will continue to experience a significant increase in the volume of transactions,” Attiana told the Westerly News via email. “When this occurs, financial administration becomes more time consuming and daily operations require more oversight to ensure that internal controls remain strong and the integrity of the financials continue. In order to manage these changes and minimize risk, it was imperative to add a senior level position to the Financial Services team.”

She said the new manager will help with budget and audit preparations as well as grant administration.

“In addition, this position assists with financial reporting, provides leadership to department staff and supervises the day to day operations of the department,” Attiana wrote.

The new position marks the fourth major municipal employment announcement so far in 2020 as Tofino recently announced the hiring of Fraser Work to fill its new director of infrastructure and public works position and Ucluelet promoted 15-year employee Brent Taron to public works foreman and is currently reviewing applications for a new director of engineering services position.
