The B.C. Ferries vessel Coastal Inspiration is spending a few days at Nanaimo’s cruise ship pier.
According to Deborah Marshall, B.C. Ferries spokeswoman, the ship is tied up near downtown Nanaimo to change out a flange ring in a seal system on one of the craft’s propulsion shafts – work that needs to be done underwater by professional divers.
“If we conducted this work at one of our operational terminals, the divers would have to come out of the water (for safety reasons) every time another ferry came in and out of dock, so the work would take much longer,” Marshall said in an e-mail.
Marshall said the work is expected to be completed Wednesday, Nov. 29.
