The Thompson-Nicola Regional District is presenting the documentary “The Clean Bin Project,” a movie that follows a Vancouver couple as they try to go waste free for a year. The award-winning film screens in Clearwater Sept. 27. “This film is a great look into the world of society as consumers and what we can do to become more accountable,” said Martin Dickson, TNRD Environmental Health Services technologist. “Hopefully people will watch the film and have a better understanding of the waste we produce and how to reduce the amount.”
“The Clean Bin Project” follows couple Jen and Grant as they compete in a one-year competition to produce as little waste as possible. The two also bid not to buy anything that can’t be recycled. The film follows them as they shop for groceries and produce their own self-made products like toothpaste and deodorant. The documentary also features interviews from pollution experts and a global look at our impact on the environment.
Admission is by donation. The movie starts each night at 6:45 p.m. and will play in the communities of Chase, Clearwater (Blackpool Community Hall), Merritt and Clinton. The filmmakers and regional waste experts will be on hand after the screening for a question and answer session with the public. To contact the filmmakers for interviews before the screening email cleanbinproject@gmail.com.
