Domestic and neighbour disputes dominate police week

Creston RCMP received 62 calls.

Creston RCMP received 62 calls, many for disputes between neighbours or exes, for assistance from February 26—March 4th, Staff Sergeant Ryan Currie said on Tuesday.

February 26

• Police received a report of harassment from an ex-partner over child support.

• Two break and enters, one to a utilities yard in Creston and the other to a business in Wynndel, are believed to be connected.

• A disturbance at a group home required police attendance.

• A cheque used under false pretenses at a local business was reported.

• Police had to advise a complainant that slander via social media is a civil, not criminal, matter.

• In what could be a sign that spring is imminent a highly intoxicated male was reported to be “frolicking” in the middle of Highway 21. Police did not locate him.

February 27

• A tiring slashing suspect has been identified after a mischief report from Erickson.

• A disturbance over a billing dispute was reported.

• Police attended to a family dispute in Creston.

• A dispute involving ex-partners over possessions led to a call to police.

• Another in a series of reports over an on-going neighbours’ dispute in Erickson was received.

February 28

• A caller who complained about unwanted harassing phone calls involving vacation sales was advised to report to the anti fraud centre.

• A person who was reported to be acting erratically, but not “frolicking” down Highway 3 near Erickson.

• A disturbance caused by relationship issues in a Creston residence was reported.

March 1

• A person well known to police was accused of causing a disturbance at a local business. He left without further issues.

• Police are investigating a report of minors being supplied with intoxicants at a residence.

• Harassment from an on-going neighbours’ dispute over social media was reported.

March 2

• An investigation has led to the identification of a suspect in a break and enter to a Creston residence that led to the theft of a vehicle and cell phone.

• When police attempted to stop an apparently unregistered vehicle in Creston the driver fled. The vehicle was located a short time afterward, and the driver was identified. He was arrested near the scene and now faces charges.

• When police attended to a domestic disturbance involving alcohol the parties were separated to prevent further issues.

• A drinking driver was seriously injured when he crashed his vehicle on Highway 3A. Charges are pending and the investigation continues.

March 3

• An assault was reported following a landlord-tenant dispute.

• A vehicle reported to be suspicious on Kootenay Pass turned out to be owned by tourists who were recreating in the area.

• A person harassing tenants in an attempt to contact an ex-partner led to an assault at a residence. Charges are being considered.

• When a known unlicensed driver was stopped the driver was charged and the vehicle was impounded.

March 4

• No violence was evident when police were called to a domestic disturbance. The uncooperative parties were separated to maintain the peace.

• When police located a reported intoxicated male walking his dog in town he was found to have an outstanding arrest warrant.

• A well-being check on a Wynndel resident did not indicate any problems.
