Donation bin break-in ends in arrests

The Terrace RCMP responded to approximately 273 calls from Friday Sept. 14, to midnight Thursday Sept. 20. Of those calls approximately158 occurred from Monday to Thursday.

Below are some highlights from the calls for service received Monday Sept. 17 to midnight Thursday Sept. 20, 2018.

Donation bin break-in ends in arrests

A report of a donation bin being broken into led to the arrest of a group. Around 8 a.m. on Wednesday Sept. 19, Terrace RCMP were called to an address on the 4500 block of Lazelle Avenue. Upon attendance, police located ripped donation bags, clothing tossed around, and a group of people with items from the bags. Two people were also located inside the donation bin. Two men, a woman, and a teenager were arrested for Mischief and released on a Promise to Appear in Court.

Two arrested for shoplifting

A man and woman were arrested for shoplifting at a business on Lakelse Avenue. Around noon on Monday Sept. 17, police received a report of two people caught shoplifting; one of which was in custody at the store, the other who had already left. Police attended and located and arrested both accused parties. The stolen merchandise was recovered and the two people were held to sober up safely. They were also banned from the store.

Man arrested in downtown break and enter

A downtown business had its window smashed and items stolen in the early hours of Sept. 18. Around 3:35 a.m. Tuesday, police were called to an address on the 4600 block of Lakelse Avenue for a break and enter. Upon attendance, police discovered a large hole in a window, lights on, and alarms going off. Police gathered evidence at the scene with the assistance of the Forensic Identification Unit.

One man has since been arrested.The investigation is ongoing.

Vehicle break-ins on Walsh Avenue and Yeo Street

Two people reported having their vehicles broken into this week. The first report came Wednesday Sept.19 from the 4400 block of Walsh Avenue. Sometime between 9 p.m. Sept. 18 and 6 a.m. Sept. 19, a number of items were taken from a truck; some were recovered nearby. The second report involved an unlocked vehicle on Yeo Street. Sometime overnight between 11 p.m. Sept. 19 and 7 a.m., Sept. 20, someone went through the vehicle and stole change.

Impaired driver

A woman lost her license for 90 days after failing a roadside breath test. Around 8 p.m. on Sept. 19, police stopped a vehicle on Old Lakelse Lake Drive near Clark Street in Thornhill. Police spoke with the driver and a roadside breath test was administered. The test registered a fail, indicating a blood alcohol concentration exceeding .08. The woman received a 90-day driving prohibition and 30-day vehicle impound under the Motor Vehicle Act.

Disturbances calls

Terrace RCMP received approximately 41 disturbance related files from Sept. 17 to Sept. 20. Eleven people were arrested and held in cells to sober up safely as a result of the calls.

Domestic disturbances

A man was charged for breaching his probation conditions after police received a call about a domestic disturbance. Police were called to a residence around noon on Monday Sept. 17. A man was arrested for breaching no-contact, no-go, and no-possess weapons conditions. He was held for court.

Police received a report of a domestic assault after midnight on Sept. 18. A man was arrested and later released on a Promise to Appear in Court. The same man was arrested again in the afternoon for breaching his release conditions and held for court. On Sept. 20, around 11:30 p.m., he was arrested for breaching his curfew, a day after being released on a Recognizance. He was again held for court.
