Donation box stolen from Campbell River restaurant

Witness saw two men wearing hoodies and balaclavas break into Baba Gannouj last night around 11 p.m.

Thieves wearing hoodies and balaclavas broke into a Merecroft village restaurant last night and made off with a donation box.

At 11:08 p.m., Campbell River RCMP were called to a break and enter in progress at Baba Gannouj Mediterranean Restaurant in Merecroft Village, Cpl. Poppy Hallam said. The caller witnessed two males wearing jeans, black hoodies and balaclavas smash the front door window. Entry was made and a cash donation box was stolen and the males fled on foot down toward the movie theatre.

The Campbell River RCMP Police Service Dog attended and tracked the suspects into Robron Field, however, the track was lost due to pedestrian traffic crossing the path of the suspects. The suspects were last seen at Pinecrest School by a witness in the neighbourhood.

Campbell River RCMP Forensic Identification Section is currently examining the scene for evidence.
