The Elkford Biking Club is $2,000 closer to it’s goal of building a bike skills park in Elkford, after two donations from local organizations.
“We are very excited to announce support from the Elk Valley Thrift Shop Society, who continually goes above and beyond to support many different organizations within the elk Valley,” said club president, Jason Meldrum, who founded the club last year as a means to get the ball rolling on bike park to give Elkford kids more activities to do locally.
The Thrift Shop donated $1,000, and the club also got another $1,000 from the Elkford Chamber of Commerce through their 2020 Volunteer of the year Bursary program, with this year’s Volunteer of the Year – Dylan Forsyth – picking the club to receive a $1,000 donation.
Meldum thanked Forsyth for supporting the cause.
“It takes a lot of money to build a bike park and create a community around that park,” said Meldrum.
“All money donated will be put to use to provide a great spot for kids and adults alike to be active and grow their skill set on a bike.”
The Volunteer of the Year Bursary program was founded in 2019 with funds from Bearspaw Contracting to support and recognize non-profit groups and organizations in Elkford.
The $2,000 in donations will go towards planning and designing the future bike park in Elkford, which has a tentative completion date on Summer 2022.
While the location is yet to be formally revealed, the district has earmarked some land in the Boivin Corridor in central Elkford.
