Double-dose vaccination rates improving in Hope as immunization clinic winds down

Next week is last chance to get walk-in COVID-19 vaccination shots in Hope

Hope’s vaccination rates continue to move steadily higher, with second doses increasing by leaps and bounds over the last month.

The B.C. Centre for Disease Control releases information for local health areas each Wednesday, and this information is for the week ending Aug. 3.

The graph shows that on July 6, just 39 per cent of Hopians ages 12 and up had two doses of a vaccine. This week, that number is 58 per cent.

The percentages are higher for older populations, as is the case provincewide. In Hope on July 6, 55 per cent of those 50 and up had two doses. This week, that number rose to 71 per cent.

There has been little increase across the Fraser Valley for those getting first shots over the last month. In Hope, the number was 76 per cent on July 6, and is 78 per cent this week, for those ages 50 and up. For Hope’s overall population (12 and up), the number has grown in that time frame from 65 to 69 per cent.

Hope consistently has had the lower vaccination rate in the Fraser Valley. There are many communities with lower rates in the province, however.

The Hope Legion immunization clinic’s last week of operation is next week. After that, those needing both tests and immunizations will go to a clinic at Fraser Canyon Hospital.
