According to RCMP Staff Sgt. Marc Pelletier, who was at the scene, the red Ford SUV vehicle that crashed was travelling north to Parksville.

Another motorist who was following the SUV told police the vehicle suddenly veered right, hit a concrete island and then soared onto an embankment. The SUV driver, alone in his vehicle, was up on his feet but appeared to be shaken. He was attended to by ambulance personnel. Pelletier indicated the man did not appear to suffer any serious injuries.
Fire crews had to use a chainsaw to cut the shrubs around the vehicle in order for it to be extracted by a tow truck.
Police are still investigating the incident.
