Driver of semi-truck issued tickets after South Quesnel crash: RCMP

The intersection near Canadian Tire will remain as a 4-way stop until the traffic light is replaced

The driver of a semi-truck which crashed into a traffic light on Highway 97 in South Quesnel around 6 p.m. May 19 was issued violation tickets for running a red light, say police.

Quesnel RCMP Sgt. Richard Weseen said a pickup truck travelling north while towing a boat was attempting a left hand turn onto Cedar Avenue with a yellow light when it was struck by the semi.

“Witness observed the transport truck accelerate prior to the intersection as the light turned red,” he said in an email. “The two occupants of the truck were transported to hospital as a precaution with minor injuries.”

Traffic was down to one lane for two hours. The intersection will remain a four-way stop with a 50 km/h speed limit until the traffic signal can be replaced.
