Driver over the limit a day later

Make sure you really have slept it off before driving

Police this week reiterated their warning to make sure people who have been drinking sleep it off long enough to be entirely sober before they get behind the wheel of their car.

Oceanside RCMP Corporal Richard van de Pol said the need to do so was highlighted by an incident last Monday afternoon, when police pulled over a suspected impaired driver on Highway 19 near Nanoose Bay.

The driver, a 22-year-old woman from Victoria, admitted she had been drinking previously but, when she was asked to provide a breath sample, she blew over the legal limit and was issued with a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and had her vehicle impounded for 30 days.

“If you are out drinking and don’t allow enough time for the alcohol to be processed, you could still be legally impaired the following day,” van de Pol said.
