Driver unharmed in high-speed rollover crash on Trans-Canada Highway

Jeep and minivan involved in collision near Nanaimo River Road

A Jeep clipped a minivan, ricocheted off the centre median and rolled over on the highway, but no one was hurt.

The two-vehicle accident happened Saturday at about 6:50 p.m. on the Trans-Canada Highway. A first responder on scene said the Jeep was merging southbound from Nanaimo River Road onto the highway a high rate of speed when the crash happened. He said the driver was being treated by B.C. Ambulance Service paramedics at the scene and would be fine. Witnesses said the Jeep, after hitting the minivan, hit the centre median and ricocheted in the opposite direction, rolling over across the southbound lanes and coming to rest on the highway shoulder.

The minivan had eight occupants on their way to a Christmas party.

Cranberry Volunteer Fire Department, Nanaimo RCMP and B.C. Ambulance Service attended. Only one southbound lane was closed to traffic.
