On Saturday, May 21st, the Terrace RCMP and West Pacific Traffic Services participated in National Impaired Driving Enforcement Day. Road checks were held at various locations and times throughout Terrace and Area.

“The RCMP is committed to Canadians and ensuring their safety by increasing our efforts to prevent drinking and driving. If you see a driver that you suspect is impaired, pull over and call 911. That call could be what it takes to save someone’s life,” says Cst. Angela Rabut of the Terrace RCMP detachment.

The results of checking over 220 vehicles as part of this coordinated national enforcement initiative were as follows:

3 Road side suspensions for alcohol

1 Immediate Roadside Prohibition

As well, the RCMP say the below actions could mean an impaired driver is behind the wheel:

– Driving unreasonably fast, slow or at an inconsistent speed

– Drifting in and out of lanes

– Tailgating and changing lanes frequently

– Making exceptionally wide turns

– Changing lanes or passing without sufficient clearance

– Overshooting or stopping well before stop signs or stop lights

– Disregarding signals and lights

Approaching signals or leaving intersections too quickly or slowly

– Driving without headlights, failing to lower high beams or leaving turn signals on

– Driving with windows open in cold or inclement weather
