Drunks keep police on their toes during St. Paddy’s day revelry

Victoria police respond to more than 100 calls for service

The luck of the Irish was not with 20 people who were arrested, most for public intoxication, during St. Patrick’s Day festivities in Victoria Saturday night.

Police responded to more than 100 calls for service, including one involving a 22-year-old Victoria man who police say started a fight and broke a window at Cafe Mexico on Store Street. A 19-year-old North Vancouver man was also taken off the streets for sucker-punching a bystander and fighting with officers.

Six impaired drivers are also facing charges after they were nabbed at police roadblocks, including a 23-year-old Parksville man was pulled over driving with his lights off and talking on his cellphone.

A breath sample revealed his blood-alcohol level was three times the legal limit.
