Around 4:45 a.m., Husky gas station manager Renata Mabie was asleep in her home above the store when she was woken up by the sound of a rock being thrown through the window of the store below.
The thieves – one man and one woman, according to gas station footage – stole all the scratch lotto tickets and used a crow bar to get at some packs of cigarettes.
Mabie was unsettled by the theft and is preparing to heighten security at the station.
“I want bars in the window and sliding doors that lock…,” she said. “There’s nothing more I can really do.”
Mabie thinks the gas station’s security alarm scared the duo off before they could do more damage. She remembers seeing them speed off in a white Honda Civic.
Mabie said it wasn’t the first time the gas station has been targeted. The business was hit in May during a slew of local crime.
“For at least the last two years, its been getting worse and worse, at least in my opinion,” she said. “We’ve been affected twice.”
Hope was also the target of petty crime this month, with video footage from a local restaurant revealing two people, a man and a woman, breaking open the front door of Yan Yon restaurant.

BC Lotto told the Observer via email that its lottery investigations team works with retailers and police to identify evidence that helps RCMP investigations.
“This would include lottery tickets that the retailer had at the time of the theft and notifying police if someone attempts to validate them.”
