• A $2 million offer by the District of Sicamous Development Corporation for the former Waterway Houseboats site was approved by the receiver in control of the now-defunct company’s assets. The purchase offer was for the 16.33-acre parcel of land located at 1 Mervyn Rd. on Mara Lake and included its docks and floating buildings. As recently as Nov. 8, the land was advertised for sale for $4,495,000.
• Sicamous police were on the lookout for a pair of stolen boats, both taken from an underground parking facility on Riverside Avenue. On Nov. 22, the RCMP was informed a black and white 2014 Campion ski boat, with a wakeboarding tower attached, was stolen from the locked facility. The following day, a 21-foot blue and white 2005 Malibu boat was reported stolen.
• It was sparsely filled cherry curd vanilla cupcakes that led to a Malakwa woman leaving a U.S. baking show competition. “I had so much fun,” said Janet Letendre after the judges told her it was time to return north of the border. “I’ll keep giving ‘er.” Letendre was the only Canadian competing on the Holiday Baking Championship, an American show on the Food Network. She had made it to episode five out of eight.
• The memory of a Shuswap businessman will be honoured with the donation of 43 acres of treed property along the Eagle River for a public park. On Dec. 6, the Columbia Shuswap Regional District announced the Malakwa property had been donated in the name of Ken Ritchie by his family and Ritchie Land & Timber Ltd. It is to be retained in perpetuity as a parkland. “The park will be named Ken Ritchie Park, to mark the legacy of the man who operated a lumber mill in Electoral Area E (Rural Sicamous and Malakwa) for many years,” stated a news release
