An early morning fire in Penticton caused RCMP to block traffic from Government Street to the bottom of Duncan hill on Monday.

Deputy fire chief Dave Spalding said they responded to the call at 5:35 a.m. of a carĀ  and detached garage fire. Both fire trucks responded and could see the “glow in the sky” upon approach.

“The car fire started and spread to the detached garage, doing heavy damage but the house wasn’t touched,” said Spalding. “The car was a total write-off but there was no damage to the house so no one was displaced or injured.”

The fire department could not determine the cause of the fire and the investigation has been handed over to the RCMP.

“RCMP have taken over to follow up on some leads they have. We were undetermined on the cause. We just know it was in the car,” said Spalding.

The car had been sitting outside the garage and Spalding said that is where the fire was first seen.
