At 7:54 p.m. on Friday, Kelowna Fire Department personnel responded to a house fire at the 3300 block of Larkspur Court.
Upon arrival, fire crews found a two story house full of smoke. The fire started at the basement level, but was mostly put out after it melted a hole in one of the water lines.
Three engines, one rescue, one command unit and 20 firefighters—including the East Kelowna paid on-call firefighters—responded to the scene with assistance from the B.C. Ambulance Service and the RCMP.
Platoon Captain Laurie Serres said that since the fire was mostly out when crews arrived, work was done to ensure there was no extension of the fire.
The cause of the fire is still undetermined.
The six residents of the home are not able to stay at the house due to extensive smoke damage; however, they did not require assistance as they are staying with family.
The damage estimate is unknown at this time.
