Huguette Allen will run for rural Lumby director with the Regional District of North Okanagan.

There is a race to represent rural Lumby residents in the Regional District of North Okanagan.

Huguette Allen has initiated a bid against Rick Fairbairn, who has been director since 2002.

“People asked me to run saying they like the fact that they are clear about where I stand and they know that I’m committed to getting results on issues they care about,” said Allen, who has ran for the Greens provincially and federally.

“People also know that I love our area and am prepared to work hard to protect it and promote it as one of the best places on earth.”

Allen says she’s interested in promoting job creation.

Building a healthy local economy and a community that is resilient to climate change don’t happen overnight and require a lot of work. They are the best ways to create good local jobs that suit a variety of talents and aptitudes,” she said.

“Jobs in forestry, agriculture, biology, renewable energy, health, tourism, arts and culture, education, and the service industry all result from these two goals. I will work to ensure we publicize our local economic plan so students can plan their fields of studies accordingly.”
