Veteran Falkland director Rene Talbot will have some competition in the Nov. 15 election.
Kelly Stalker is seeking the Columbia-Shuswap Regional District’s Area D seat, a position Talbot has held since 2002.
“People see the volunteer work I’m doing in the community and they asked me to run,” said Stalker, who has lived in Falkland since 2012 and is involved with the school, parks and the Falkland Stampede.
Stalker, who is editor of the Falkland News, says a primary issue is improving communications between the regional district and residents of the Falkland and Salmon River area.
“The community would like a voice at the district instead of the district telling them what to do,” she said, adding that residents often feel they are not involved in decision making.
“I will listen to the community, act on what I can do within the scope of the job and report back and consult with residents.”
