The full list of candidates running in the upcoming municipal election, which will be held Nov. 15, has been released.
There are two candidates for the mayor’s seat, incumbent Bruce Banman and Coun. Henry Braun.
In the 2011 election, there were five mayoral candidates.
There are 31 candidates running for council and eight will be elected.
Incumbents Les Barkman, Moe Gill, Dave Loewen, Bill MacGregor and Patricia Ross are all running again, but three council seats have no incumbent, as Coun. John Smith will not seek re-election, former councillor Simon Gibson was elected to the legislature and Braun is seeking the mayor’s seat.
Also running for council are: Rick Barkwell, James W. Breckenridge, Dan Bue, Raji Buttar, Lyle Caldwell, Joe (Joginder) Singh Chahal, Ward Draper, Tim Felger, Raymond Kobes, Gerda Peachey, Marlisa Power, Paul Redekopp, Doug Rempel, David Sahlstrom, Daljit Singh Sidhu, Tina Stewart, Ken Wuschke and Karen Young.
Running with the AbbotsfordFirst slate are candidates Sandy Blue, Kelly Chahal, Vince Dimanno, Brenda Falk and Ross Siemens.
The Abbotsford Greens have endorsed three candidates: Aird Flavelle, Nathan Loewen and Hank Roos.
In the 2011 election there were 21 candidates for council.
There are 16 candidates running for school trustee positions with seven to be elected.
Running are incumbents Rhonda Pauls, Stan Petersen, Preet S. Rai, Cindy Schafer and Shirley Wilson.
Two incumbents will not seek re-election: John Sutherland recently announced his retirement and Korky Neufeld has announced plans to seek the Conservative nomination for the new federal riding of Mission – Matsqui – Fraser Canyon.
Also running for trustee positions are Phil Anderson, Noah Dwain Arney, Balbir S. Gill, Kamal Gill, Harold Kokot, Tadeusz Kuczynski, Freddy Latham, Graham Evan MacDonell, Kirpa Punam Kaur Mann, Linda Matties and Kevin Pedersen.
