Firefighter Craig Teichrieb has annouced his candidacy for Township council.
The Brookswood resident started as a paid on call firefighter at Township Hall 6, and has recently taken on the role as vice president of the Richmond Firefighters Association.
He has done volunteer work in the community with the Salvation Army and the Langley Memorial Hospital Residential Care facility, where he brings his therapy dog, Willow.
“(Langley) is a fantastic community to live and is still early in its growth,” Teichrieb said in a press release.
“I want to step forward for the role of councillor to be part of that growth, and help shape the positive. This isn’t just about giving back, you don’t have to be on council to give back within your community. It’s about serving the citizens that elect you and advocating for the decisions that are important to them.”
If elected, Teichrieb said community safety will be on the forefront of his interests — particularly as it relates to the legalization of cannabis — and the future growth of Brookswood-Fernridge.
“Coincidently, the legalization and civic elections are only days apart, however, I am looking forward at the opportunity of being a part of the decisions and bylaws needed to help regulate this new industry within the Township,” he said in a press release.
“The industry is already making a big foothold within the Township and to make this a positive addition to agriculture and industry, council will need to make a lot of tough decisions that will affect where this product can be cultivated to how to make it safe for residents and businesses within our communities.”
