Langley Township councillor Michelle Sparrow has announced she will seek a third term in office.

In a release issued Friday, Sparrow said it has been “an honour and a privilege to share my perspective and passion for our community on Langley Township Council over the past seven years.

“I am proud of the work I have accomplished so far on behalf of Langley residents, and excited to continue making a difference within our community.”

In the release, Sparrow pointed to her record in speaking out against the urban development of Langley’s agricultural lands and promised, if re-elected, to continue to fight to see farmland protected.

Sparrow said she has worked to see the creation of a Community Amenity Contribution Policy to help address funding needs, including for new recreation facilities, parks, libraries, police, fire and road infrastructure.

She said she has worked to see that urban development areas provide a variety of housing options and respect the diversity that Langley, as a community of communities offers, while encouraging mixed-use, walkable communities, which provide at residents’ doorsteps, shops and services they would otherwise have to drive to, leaving space for parks, community gardens and ample green space.

“For myself, the last several years have been all about growth, both personally and professionally. Much has changed, from becoming a local small business owner to juggling all that comes with being a single mom and raising four daughters.

“I have stood strong for what I believe in, even when it was difficult and I am proud of the work I have achieved alongside my fellow councillors.

“If given the opportunity to serve another term I will continue to be a strong voice, to bring innovation and a fresh perspective to Langley Township Council.
