Power was out in the Northwest for approximately an hour on May 11 due to transmission circuit failure, according to BC Hydro.
At 4:19 p.m., the outage affected 10,223 customers in the Terrace area. It was restored at 5:16 p.m.
On Twitter, BC Hydro said their crews were “responding to large outages” across northwest B.C., including Prince Rupert, Houston, Smithers and Telkwa.
It’s estimated that nearly 40,000 customers were without power in the region.
There is speculation online that the power outage was connected to the Fraser Lake wildfire, but BC Hydro would not confirm this before press time.
