Heavy police presence could be seen at Comox Valley RV on Ryan Road as Comox Valley RCMP responded Thursday morning to an emailed bomb threat.
Danny Keyes, dealer principal of Comox Valley RV said around 10 a.m., staff received an email to one of the corporate email addresses which threatened to ignite a bomb if the dealership didn’t pay a certain amount of money.
“We’re not experts, so we called the RCMP right away. They were extremely prompt and came with their dogs; they were very efficient.”
Keyes added there were around 18 staff members in the building at the time, and police had everyone evacuate the building.
Indications are this is not an isolated incident. There have been reports of similar emailed bomb threats in other parts of the province. Black Press is reaching out to the RCMP for confirmation and further comment.
“It’s a real shame … as it ties up police resources,” Keyes said, but cautioned it is better to err on the side of caution.
“We all get crappy emails, but it’s always good to pick up the phone (and call police) – safety first.”
