A significant structure fire in the mobile home park on Middle Road has left a number of residents without a place to stay, at least for one night.
Fire crews from View Royal, Colwood and Esquimalt battled the blaze with 39 firefighters in total. When they arrived two homes were well-involved in fire with initial reports of people trapped inside and jumping out windows, according to Fire Chief Paul Hurst of the View Royal Fire Department.
“Units were entered and searched under rapidly deteriorating conditions by View Royal Engine and Ladder crews and confirmed no persons trapped, all occupants accounted for.”
Josh Hughes said he heard an explosion some time after 11 p.m. Tuesday. A short time after that a neighbour knocked on his door, telling him and his family to get out.
The home next to his was partially on fire while another was fully engulfed.
