Emergency dispatchers help Victoria police net robbery suspect

East Sooke man arrested moments after convenience store theft

A 20-year-old East Sooke man was nabbed by Victoria officers minutes after he allegedly robbed a Victoria convenience store at knife point Tuesday night.

Just before midnight, aclerk at Mac’s Convenience Store, located at 2635 Quadra St., called 911 to report that a robber had pulled a knife, demanded cash and cigarettes and escaped with an undisclosed wad of money.

Victoria emergency dispatchers assisted officers in setting up a perimeter around the store and relaying a detailed description of the male, which “… allowed officers to quickly arrest the suspect at Cook Street and Haultain Street,” Const. Mike Russell said.

Police were recommending charges of robbery and possession of a dangerous weapon.
