The Emily Carr branch of the Greater Victoria Public Library will close its doors for good Sunday before it reopens in a new location.
The branch, which has been open at the corner of Blanshard Street and Saanich Road since 1972, will move to the upper level of Uptown. The new location is expected to open its doors Jan. 6.
The GVPL will host a drop-in celebration on Friday (Dec. 13) – the library’s namesake’s birthday – that will include contributing to a memory book. The event runs from 1 to 4 p.m.
The old building, which is owned by Saanich, will be renovated at a cost of $975,000 and converted into office space for the Saanich police. That renovation isn’t expected to begin until the new year.
The Emily Carr branch (currently at 3500 Blanshard St.) is open all week, and will close for good at 5 p.m. on Dec. 15.
