Enderby house gutted by fire

The community has rallied around an Enderby couple who lost their home, and everything in it.

A Trinity Valley Road home went up in flames Friday morning, while owners Gerry and Nancy Huston were away.

While they are fully insured, the couple lost everything in the blaze. Therefore the community stepped up with a place and furnishing to help their neighbours during the difficult time.

They are very grateful and overwhelmed with the community’s support, as well as the kindness

“We appreciate the emotional support that we’ve been receiving,” said the Hustons.

Neighbours John and Heather Fournier and their family have been particular helpful, setting up the home and organizing the collection of items.

But Heather credits the community for stepping up during this time of need.

“On behalf of my family, I would like to send a huge thank you to everyone who helped outfit and furnish the house they will be staying in as they get their affairs in order. Your generosity has been so amazing and such a blessing!”

A cause of the blaze has not yet been determined.

Enderby Fire Department responded to a house fire on a rural property early Friday morning.

Firefighters were called to 3702 Trinity Valley Road at 7:20 a.m. in response to a neighbour’s report of a single-family house in flames.

Enderby deputy fire chief Richard Bastiaasen said when they arrived at the home, flames were shooting out of the window openings.

While fire damage was contained to the house, Bastiaasen said little could be saved from the contents inside the 1,000 square-foot one level house with a crawlspace.

“Not a lot really could be saved from this fire,” he said.

Three water tenders were called upon to transfer water to fight the fire while a highways department sand truck was needed to help provide safe passage for the tenders in bad winter rural road conditions.

Nobody was home at the time of the fire, as the occupants were away on vacation.

“It was a concern initially as when we called the house no one answered,” Bastiaasen said.

The investigation to determine how the fire started is continuing.
