Enderby officials have questions about policing.
With some areas of crime increasing, city council insists there is a need for RCMP resources to be expanded.
“If they (officers) are heading to something and they get rerouted to another incident, that’s where they are going,” said Mayor Greg McCune.
McCune says there aren’t officers permanently stationed at Enderby’s detachment as they are rotated throughout the region, which includes Armstrong and Falkland.
“Our bad guys know what’s going on.”
McCune and council plan to raise the issue of staffing with RCMP administration.
“Put one officer in the detachment that is Enderby’s officer,” he said.
According to second quarter statistics, there were nine cases of theft under $5,000 between April and June 2017 compared to eight during the same three months in 2016.
For drug offences, there were five during the second quarter of this year while there were two last year.
There were 18 liquor offences between April and June compared to seven in 2017, while there were 11 cases of assault in the second quarter, up from four in 2016.
To assist the police, the city has launched a community initiative.
“Our Citizens on Patrol program will go along ways to help with the situation,” said McCune.
