Enrollment in the Arrow Lakes School District is expected to decline again, but it’s the relatively small amount that has trustees smiling.
“That’s the smallest drop I’ve ever seen since I’ve been a trustee,” said Patti Adams, a school board trustee for the past 12 years.
She was responding to a report by superintendent Terry Taylor that was presented at the district’s Committee of the Whole meeting last Tuesday, Feb. 13.
Broken down by school, here’s the projected enrollment for the 2014-15 school year:
— At Nakusp Secondary School, the numbers are expected to remain the same, with 160 students.
— At Nakusp Elementary School a small decline in the number of student is expected.
— Enrollment at Edgewood Elementary School is projected to be the same.
— Lucerne Elementary & Secondary School is expected to see more students, including 12 in kindergarten.
— 25 students are projected to enroll with the district learning school, but Taylor said they tend to have more students than expected there.
“Our overall district numbers I would say are fairly stable,” said Taylor. “That’s significant because as you know we’ve been going through a trend over a number of years of declining enrollments. So we’re plateauing.”
