Nanaimo saw its first snowy blast of the season Tuesday and the Harbour City could be in for a white Christmas.
As of this morning, Thursday, Dec. 21, Environment Canada says there is a chance of flurries on Christmas Eve and Christmas. There are also flurries forecast for Boxing Day and Dec. 27.
Doug Lundquist, Environment Canada meteorologist, said colder air is moving in from the B.C. Interior and he is hoping it’s cold enough that toward Christmas, there may be flurries. He estimated there is a 60 per cent chance.RELATED: More snow expected for Vancouver Island on Thursday
“Right now the forecast from Christmas Eve through to Boxing Day is with lows about -2 C, highs of about 2 C and a 60 per cent chance of flurries each period of that, so there is a chance that we might see some white stuff falling and or collecting on the ground for Christmas Day,” Lundquist told the News Bulletin on Wednesday. “I would say your chances are higher than usual.”
Lundquist said there were 20 centimetres of snow recorded at Nanaimo Airport during Tuesday’s snowfall event.
