INCUMBENT Coast Mountains School District trustee Art Erasmus topped the polls in Terrace to return as one of two city trustees in local elections Nov. 19.
The former school principal and current vice chair of the school board unofficially received 1,091 votes.
Roger Leclerc is to be the second Terrace trustee with 1,033 votes. It marks a return for Leclerc who was a trustee more than a decade ago.
Running third was Charlotte Guno with 571 votes, Ian Hayes with 509 votes and Hal Stedham with 403 votes. Stedham was a trustee until being defeated in the 2008 election.
In Thornhill, Gary Turner has been returned as the Thornhill trustee on the Coast Mountains school board.
He defeated Lorrie Gowen who was making an attempt to reclaim the seat she once held.
With one poll still to report in on Saturday night, Turner had 264 votes and Gowen had 181 votes.
Turner’s re-election should set up an interesting session when the school board meets tonight.
At the last school board meeting in October, Turner served notice he would introduce a motion tonight to rescind the plan to close Thornhill Junior Secondary School next June.
Last Saturday was also a winning night for Ted Ramsey, the incumbent running to keep his Thornhill seat on the Kitimat-Stikine regional district.
He defeated Les Watmough who was making a bid to reclaim a seat he had held for years until being defeated by Ramsey in the 2008 election.
Ramsey was re-elected with 186 votes, defeating Watmough who had 99 votes and a third challenger, Sarah Crampton, who had 57 votes.
In Area C of the regional district, the rural area north of Terrace sweeping south to Lakelse Lake and also taking in the rural area around Kitimat, incumbent Allan Lanctot had less luck.
He was defeated by Doug McLeod, a Lakelse Lake resident, who topped the polls with 148.
Lanctot, who also lives at Lakelse Lake, received 32 votes.
That placed him third as Brad Pollard received 97 votes.
Pollard is a Terrace city councillor who decided to run for a regional district seat because he is moving from Terrace to the rural area.
Running fifth in the Area C race was Glenn Martin who received 28 votes.
These are unofficial results as not all polls had reported as of late Saturday night. Missing were mail in and mobile poll results.
The regional district directors will be sworn in next month when the district meets next.
