About 600 migrant workers — well over last year’s 350 — visited the Erickson Covenant Church on Friday for the third annual pickers’ lunch.
“For two hours, you couldn’t see the end of the line,” said organizer Becky Coons, who started the event to thank these key players in the Creston Valley fruit industry.
Extra grocery runs had to be made during the event, which was sponsored by Overwaitea Foods, Creston Valley Bakery, Northtown Rentals and the Creston Ministerial Association.
Many of the diners were from Quebec, said Pastor Tom Greentree, with others visiting from Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Spain, Italy and France.
