The City of Abbotsford issued an evacuation alert Wednesday afternoon for an area of Glen Valley.
Residents in the unprotected area north of the CN railway near the Fraser River are being asked to get ready to leave their homes at a moment’s notice, but an evacuation order has not yet been issued. They are asked to pack several days worth of clothing, medication, toiletries and any important documents they have.
We would like to thank residents of Glen Valley for their understanding and cooperation as rising water levels may cause roads, trails and access to some of their homes to be shut down,” Mayor Henry Braun said in a statement. “We encourage all residents to follow the advice of emergency officials and be prepared to act quickly should an evacuation order be issued.”
Rising water levels from the spring freshet have caused flooding and evacuations in a number of B.C. communities, including Chilliwack, Grand Forks and Osooyoos.
