The City of Abbotsford has rescinded its evacuation alert for residents in an area of Glen Valley.
The alert was issued Wednesday, May 16 for the area of River Road between the CN train tracks and the Fraser River as the water levels rose with the freshet. It was not an evacuation order. Residents were told, at the time, to be ready to leave their homes at a moment’s notice.
“We would like to thank residents of Glen Valley for their cooperation with officials over the last week,” said Mayor Henry Braun in a statement released Thursday afternoon. “The City has been monitoring water levels and now finds that it is safe to remove the alert.”
City staff continue to monitor water levels, but the flood risk is now expected to subside, according to the statement.
