The City of Quesnel continues to actively monitor the areas of Panorama Ridge and Dragon Hill Road more than one month after land movement resulted in states of local emergency being ordered.
“We haven’t dealt with landslides like we did this year,” said director of emergency services and fire chief Ron Richert.
“For some reason, this year, we’re getting a lot more than we’ve ever seen.”
Richert added there wasn’t much the city could do right now.
“We’ve hired geotechs and they’re constantly doing monitoring on those, so that’s all that we’re doing at this point,” he said.

An evacuation alert remains in place for several properties on Dragon Hill Road and Panorama Ridge.
Two properties were ordered to evacuate, including Marshall Veterinary Hospital that announced in early May they would not be re-opening.
Land movement also continues to be monitored daily at Carson Elementary School at Graham Avenue after a landslide occurred on the bank behind the school Sunday, April 11.
Temporary security fencing was put around the play structures, which School District 28 said remains off-limits for student and public use.
Some movement of the bank has been seen as it settles to its natural slope, the district noted, adding a geotechnical engineer was on-site April 30 and confirmed the safety of the site and fencing.
