It was an exciting day in Golden for B.C. Hydro.

The utility held its official Open House June 9 and that event included a celebratory sod turning with David Lebeter, BC Hydro Senior Vice-President Transmission & Distribution.

Also on hand were Steve Lang, District Manager S&C Electric Canada Ltd, Golden Mayor Christina Benty and Jenny Klafki, External Relations Manager -Lake Louise, Yoho and Kootenay Field Unit, Parks Canada.

The sod turning and open house were to celebrate the new site for Battery Energy Storage Project.

This was a topic that was particularly interesting to the public as was the Columbia Valley Transmission project, which is also underway in Golden.

Other topics of discussion included The Fish and Wildlife compensation program, the Smart Metering Initiative, Power Pioneers, Power Smart and public safety.

The event was attended by 110 community members, including children who were offered bucket rides and other fun and games.
