Courtenay council has given Graham Design Builders three months to perform concrete work on the new regional hospital beyond normal construction hours.
The allotted time is from November to January. During this time, the company must provide the city with a monthly report on dates the work occurred outside bylaw requirements.
A Prevention of Public Nuisance Bylaw limits construction from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday to Saturday and from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Sundays and holidays. The bylaw also allows council to consider approving work beyond prescribed hours.
The company has requested an extension to the hours for the placement and trowel finish of suspended concrete slabs from November to September. Each of the slabs are about 3,300 square metres. Pouring and finishing a slab is expected to occur about every two weeks.
“I’m hopeful this will be no big deal,” Coun. Jon Ambler said.
Monitoring activity and neighbourhood concerns after a three-month period will allow council to consider a further extension.
