The heat wave that hit the Cowichan Valley yesterday and is forecast to continue through the weekend has the Cowichan Valley Regional District offering morning hours only at its waste and recycling centres for the next few days.
The Meade Creek Recycling Centre in the Cowichan Lake area will be closed entirely on Thursday and Friday, and will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 14.
The Bings Creek operation will be open from 8 a.m. to noon on Thursday and Friday, and from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 14.
The Peerless Road site will be open from 9 a.m. to noon on Thursday and Friday, and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 14.
“The CVRD apologizes for the inconvenience this may cause residents,” they said in a press release, “but is taking these measures for the health and safety of its staff and the public.”
Temperatures are expected to reach into the mid-30s C in the afternoon and evening over the next three days.
Earlier this summer the CVRD also curtailed hours as its facilities when a heat dome in June brought record-high temperatures.
