UPDATE: Alert was cancelled Saturday morning, “due to improved weather conditions and forecast.”
Due to the heavy rains, an extreme weather alert has been issued for by the Salvation Army Gateway of Hope in Langley, which will be offering extra spaces for homeless people to sleep.
The advisory, issued by Cristina Schneiter for the shelter at 5787 Langley Bypass, is in effect until further notice.
“If you are sleeping outside, please come to the safety of the shelter,” the announcement said.
“If you require shelter assistance after 9 p.m., call the Langley RCMP at 604-532-3200 and they will help you to a location,” the announcement said.

An Environment Canada forecast said the southern portions of the region could see winds of southeasterly winds of 60 to 80 kilometres per hour.
