North Okanagan residents are being urged to support community agencies that support them.
The United Way has kicked off its annual fall campaign.
“Our financial goal is $250,000 which is indicative of the basic need for services in our communities,” said Linda Yule, executive director.
“The campaign is about more than fundraising. It’s about a vision for a community that is healthy, caring, and inclusive. It’s about working together for the common good.”
Among the agencies that have received United Way support are the Enderby and District Family Resource Centre, the Family Resource Centre for the North Okanagan, Independent Living Vernon, Kindale Development Association, the Falkland Okanagan Boys and Girls Club, the Upper Room Mission and the Whitevalley Community Resource Centre.
Yule says United Way believes in building strong communities by ensuring children are healthy, youth are engaged, seniors can live independently and those with challenges receive the support they need.
“United Way’s community fund helps in the short-term by meeting immediate needs and in the long-term by addressing the root causes of social issues,” she said.
Tom Christensen, a lawyer and former MLA, has been named a United Way champion.
“United Way provides funding to numerous grassroots organizations working to improve quality of life in our communities,” he said.
