A pilot-program for research has a promising future in Fruitvale.
In its regular council meeting on Monday night, spokesperson Fiona Mooney presented council with information about branding the area as “family-friendly.”
The Lower Columbia Family Action Network (FAN) to identify services, amenities, resources and characteristics that make Greater Trail a family friendly region for residents and visitors. Mayor Patricia Cecchini sits on the Steering Committee for the Family Action Network as part of her social planning role.
“Unlike the last presentation you just heard,” Mooney said, alluding to an annual report from the Central Kootenay Invasive Plant Program committee.
“We want something to invade and flourish, and that’s families.”
Mooney noted it wouldn’t be fruitful to let a good idea get swept under the rug, and hoped the project could provide the area with a blueprint for families. The intention of the research project is to build an inclusive community and encourage interaction between all age groups within the region.
“As the FAN is currently identifying its role in supporting family oriented agencies, the direction the community will take is still developing,” said chief administrative officer Lila Creswell on Tuesday morning.
“However, part of Council’s Strategic Plan is to support family service initiatives, be they infant, early childhood, youth, intermediate, or seniors.”
