Fast and organized crews saved Sackner home, despite extreme winter conditions: Vanderhoof Fire Chief, Joe Pacheco

Fire trucks were called out to a house on Sackner road in Vanderhoof Wednesday.

Fire trucks were called out to a house on Sackner road in Vanderhoof Wednesday. Sixteen firefighters were on scene as well as police and ambulance crews, Vanderhoof Fire Chief, Joe Pacheco confirmed.

“We had to deal with extreme cold,” Pacheco said.

The air temperature was – 37 degees Celsius throughout that day, however the chief noted,

“Crews dealt with the fire in a very organized manner.”

The blaze started in the basement and was contained to the basement Pacheco explained, adding, “The upper floor had smoke and heat damage but the house was not destroyed.” He said the crews stayed on scene for a quite a while to vent heavy smoke from the building.

The chief noted there was no one home and that the resident is a son of the family that owns the building but who only lives there part time.

The fire is being investigated for a possible cause.
